Applique is the creation of a collage using layered fabric and thread. Using this technique, whole pictures can be created or a smaller design such as the image above. Applique enables personalisation of a range of items from clothing to homewares, all through sewing techniques.

Free motion embroidery uses the needle as it if it a pencil to "draw" a picture through thread. It is great fun and can produce fabulous results. If you would like to try using your sewing machine in a different way, this is the workshop to book! It doesn't matter if you can't draw - we will show you effective ways of creating original designs that enable your free motion embroidery to be successful.
You will need to bring your own sewing machine, an embroidery presser foot for your sewing machine, selection of thread and embellishments that you might use in your design. If you have always wanted to make your own clothes but shied away from commercial patterns, come along to this workshop where we will explain what all the pattern symbols mean and why they are necessary! Once you have explored one commercial pattern, the rest will be easier to understand.
In this workshop you will learn: how to read a pattern, decide on sizing (including simple grading), how to prepare pattern pieces for dressmaking. You will not be making a garment in this session, only learning the techniques required to read and follow a commercial pattern.
If you would like to learn how to arrange pattern pieces on fabric and how to transfer information from the pattern to your fabric and linings, this is the course for you. It is helpful if you already have an understanding of how to read a commercial pattern prior to attending this workshop. You will be making a simple garment which may require finishing at home. In this workshop you will learn how to lay out pattern pieces on fabric (you should already be familiar with preparing pattern pieces to your chosen size), cutting pattern pieces and transferring markings, sewing a simple garment.
