Crochet workshops

Crochet is a fun and relatively cheap as it only requires a crochet hook and a ball of yarn.  Crochet has been used for centuries in homewares and clothing.  The most recognisable item of crochet is the traditional 'Granny square'.  If you have always wanted to learn to crochet or would like to be able to follow a pattern then we have the workshop for you!

We have listed some of the most popular crochet workshops run here at RE Treats.  If the workshop you would like to book isn't running, please email us your interest and we will try to accommodate your request.

Intermediate crochet course

The art of crochet has made a comeback in recent years as more people turn to therapeutic crafts.  It is a relatively cheap hobby to learn as it requires a ball of yarn and a crochet needle (hook).  In the Beginner's crochet course you will learn how to correctly match yarn ply to hook size.  You will also learn how to hold the hook and yarn, make a basic chain stitch, and treble stitch too.  Once you have mastered these you can then learn how to  create a  traditional 'Granny square'.

The workshop will last around 2.5 hours and cost £40.  If you have a basic sewing kit, please bring this with you.  We will supply you with all the materials you need for the workshop and for you to continue to practice afterwards.  Amazon have a lovely beginner's crochet kit which you can access here if you would like to purchase your own: https://amzn.to/365HqST

Once you have learned how to create a chain stitch, treble and use the stitches to create a Granny square, you might want to learn how to change colour whilst creating Granny squares.  From here, you could go on to create one big square or smaller squares that can then be sewn together to create a blanket or a cushion cover.

Taking time to learn the basics is essential for good future results.  In this workshop, you will learn how to colour combine so that you can start to create your own soft furnishing designs to match your existing decor.

This workshop will last approximately 2 hours and cost £40.  All materials required for the workshop will be supplied. If you have wool and a crochet hook that you want to bring with you, please do. A basic sewing kit would also be useful.  If you want to purchase a crochet kit Amazon have some good deals - such as this one: https://amzn.to/3Lrz0FJ

Once you have mastered chain and treble stitch there are some other stitches to master such as: double crochet and half treble crochet.  These are not the only stitches but the others are all formed from the basic stitches.  Knowing just the stitches can be limiting in terms of crochet creation, being able to read and interpret a pattern opens a world of possibilities for crochet including: homewares, clothing, toys and decorations.

In this course you will learn how to read a simple pattern and become familiar with new stitches too.   This workshop will last approximately 2 hours and cost £30.  All materials required for the workshop will be supplied.  If you have wool and a crochet hook that you want to bring with you, please do.  A basic sewing kit would also be useful.  If you want to purchase a crochet book with stitches and patterns Amazon have some lovely examples, such as: https://amzn.to/3Be1SME
