There are many different techniques to explore in hand knitting, from learning how to cast on and create your first stitches to working with colour, following patterns and creating textured designs.
Whether you are picking up knitting needles for the first time, returning to knitting after a break or looking to develop your existing skills, there is always something new to learn.
We have highlighted some of the hand knitting workshops available here at RE Treats Plymouth below. If the workshop you are looking for isn't currently running, or there is a particular technique you would like to learn, please get in touch and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
First stitches
Learn the foundations of knitting, from casting on and creating knit and purl stitches to casting off and understanding yarn and needle sizes.
Intarsia
Discover how to introduce colour into your knitting, manage your tension and begin creating pictures and designs using different coloured yarns.
Guided Knitting
Develop your knitting skills further by learning how to increase and decrease stitches, correct mistakes and begin understanding garment patterns.
Three Needles!
Explore cable knitting, learn how and why a third needle is used and practise creating cable stitches before making a cabled mug cosy.
Build your skills step by step
Start at the stage that matches your current experience and progress through the workshops as your confidence and skills develop. You don't have to start at the beginning if you already have some experience.
Workshops are kept small, so places are limited on each date.

Starting point:
Two friends came to RE Treats for a Complete Beginners knitting session. Learning to knit had been on their bucket list, but neither had ever knitted before. Their grandmothers could have taught them when they were younger, but at the time they hadn't been interested. Now they wanted to learn and no longer had anyone in their families who could teach them.
Their progress:
Starting completely from scratch, they learned how to cast on, create both knit and purl stitches, and cast off. They discovered that learning to knit wasn't as easy as they had imagined, but they persevered and practised each of the essential techniques during the session.
What they achieved:
By the end of their session, both had experienced the complete knitting process from casting on to casting off and had learned the four fundamental skills they needed to continue practising at home: casting on, knitting, purling and casting off.
