The art of knitting has made a comeback in recent years and is a popular activity today. It is also a relatively cheap hobby to start, requiring just 1 ball of wool and pair of needles to learn basic stitches. In the beginners workshop you will learn about wool ply (thickness) and how to match knitting needles to ply correctly. You will also learn how to create a plain stitch (aka knit stitch) and a purl stitch, then how to combine them to create stocking stitch. Once you have mastered these stitches you will learn how to cast off and then how to cast on too. From learning these skills you can create squares and use your practice knitting to create a blanket or drinks coasters.
The workshop will last 2 hours and cost £40. If you have a basic sewing or knitting kit please bring it with you. We will supply all materials needed for the workshop and for you to continue your practice after the session. Amazon have a lovely beginners knitting kit, you can access here if you want to purchase your own kit: https://amzn.to/3EE6kpa
Once you have learned how to cast on, off and knit the basic stitches (plain and purl) you might want to learn how to read a knitting pattern. The instructions on the pattern are written in shorthand and there is always a key to explain what each part of the pattern means. Most patterns use the same terminology so once you can read one knitting pattern, you should be able to work them all out. Being able to read a knitting pattern unlocks the doors to a whole new world where anything is possible and you will quickly discover there are more stitches to learn! Taking time to learn the basics is essential for good future results.
In this workshop you will learn how to create rib stitch and read a basic pattern. The knitting created will be a sample which again could be used to form a blanket.
The pattern reading workshop will last approximately 2 hours and cost £40. All materials required for the workshop will be supplied. If you have wool and needles that you want to bring with you, please do. A basic knitting kit would also be useful. If you want to purchase a knitting kit Amazon have some good deals - such as this one: https://amzn.to/3IA740Y
Now you have learned to knit basic stitches and read a pattern, the next skill you might want to learn is how to colour combine your knitting to make patterns and pictures. This is called "intarsia" knitting. It is a real skill to be able to knit a picture or design and weave the wool properly so that all your hard work is long lasting.
This workshop will teach you how to colour combine when knitting. NB: do not book onto this workshop if you don't know how to cast on, cast off, knit and purl. Pattern reading is advantageous but not essential.
The workshop will last 2 hours and cost £40. All materials required for the workshop will be provided on the day but if you want to knit in particular colours then please bring along a selection of wool. If you would like to purchase some double knit in a rainbow of colours, see this product on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3ybO18r

It is perfectly acceptable to create garments and items in stocking stitch only without learning how to lace knit. If lacy knitting is something you are interested in, we can teach you how to interpret the pattern correctly and how to create lacy knitting. To learn this technique, you need to be able to cast on and off, knit in stocking stitch and understand a simple pattern.
In this workshop you will create a sample piece of lace knitting to learn how to read a more complex pattern. You will need to start your knitting prior to attending the course and instructions will be sent once your booking is completed. The workshop will last approximately 2 hours and cost £30.
Cable knitting requires a good understanding of knitting basics. We recommend attending both of our knitting for beginners workshops before booking onto this workshop. Cable knitting requires the knitter to twist stitches in different directions and that requires a third needle. Having good control of the two knitting pins is critical for successful cabling. If you have completed beginners knitting workshops (with us or elsewhere) and practiced your knitting then now might be the right time for you to book onto the cable knitting workshop. Cable knitting is most widely associated with Aran knitting.
In the workshop you will learn how to interpret a cable knit pattern and how to control 3 needles successfully. You will create a sample cable knit and all materials will be supplied on the day. The workshop will last approximately 2 hours and cost £30.
There is lots of fun to be had through different types of knitting projects. Whether you are knitting garments or items different effects can be achieved by changing the yarn and needles used.
To use some of the more funky yarns such as: tinsel, snowflake and pom pom you need to be able to perform plain knit stitch competently. These yarns are slightly more difficult to knit with as the stitches hide themselves amongst the yarn. We have some fun projects that you can try in a supported workshop. The project you start won't be completed in the workshop but you will be able to finish it independently.
This workshop will last approximately 2 hours and cost £45 as it includes the pattern, materials and knitting needles.
